Yoga Offerings

Experience the power of private yoga

Whether you’re interested in deepening your yoga practice, wish to increase your flexibility, or have specific areas of the body that need extra love and attention, you can advance at your own pace with private yoga sessions.

All yoga privates will be led by Denise Horvilleur. Denise began practicing Yoga to supplement rehabilitation for a training injury. Yoga practice provided Denise with a physical and mental awareness that continues to benefit her. She has spent over a decade training others in mindful breathing, movement, and relaxation practices in offices, hospitals, schools, and home settings. Learning to direct attention skillfully has helped Denise better cope with physical pain, emotional stress and acceptance of life as it comes.

What to expect

Each session will start with an assessment to outline specific expectations and goals for your yoga journey. In addition, they will also include posture alignment, breathwork, and a unique pattern of sequencing designed to revitalize your body, mind, and soul!

Yoga therapy now offered at Rice

Yoga therapy is a holistic approach to health and well-being that utilizes traditional yoga techniques within the framework of the Western medical model. Sessions are highly personalized and practices in a therapeutic context. Yoga therapy can be used to offer relief from everyday discomfort, illness and pain, stress, sleep disorders, recovery as well as chronic conditions such as heart disease and cancer.

How is Yoga Therapy different from a yoga class?

Yoga therapy is different from a traditional yoga class as it involves a personalized assessment, goal setting and individualized support from a certified yoga therapist. It is generally recommended to start with 6 sessions in order to begin to feel the effects of yoga therapy. Individuals may feel benefits immediately, but for some the process is more gradual. Sessions range in time but often last 60 minutes.

How does yoga therapy work?

Yoga therapy begins with an individualized assessment to better understand any issues or imbalances that may be present. A yoga therapist will then identify potential causes from a whole body perspective and along with the client, set goals to develop a plan of action. Yoga interventions such as postures, breathing techniques, meditation, mindfulness practices, stress reduction, etc will be used to address concerns.
