Swimming & Safety Overview

Pool Hours
We have two swimming pools available for use: a 25-yard by 50-meter Competition Pool and the Recreation Pool, complete with a water volleyball net and two basketball goals and has a maximum depth of 4 feet. The Recreation Pool closes for part of the winter, but the Competition Pool is open year-round. Our Competition pool also has diving boards available at designated times.

Swim Lessons
We offer swim lessons for every age and skill level, from parent & me courses to adult lessons. Our lessons are available in groups, private or semi-private. All of our lesson options are available year-round; for private and semi-private lessons, we work around your schedule.

Private Swim Lessons
The Rice Aquatic Center conducts private lessons for anyone three (3) years of age or older. This allows the instructor to personalize sessions to fit your individual needs as well as your schedule.

Lifeguarding Course
This courses prepares candidates to recognize and respond quickly and effectively to aquatic emergencies and prevent drowning and other incidents.

Pool Policies
We strive to provide a safe and clean environment for our patrons. As a result, we have a set of policies that we feel will ensure that our facility remains safe and clean, and will optimize the swimming experience for our patrons.

Stroke Clinics
The Rice Recreation Center Aquatics Program offers a variety of FREE clinics. We can help out a range of people, from those who have just learned to swim to the advanced swimmer who would like a few tips to improve the speed and efficiency of their stroke.

We are always looking for qualified lifeguards and Water Safety Instructors. Contact Maggie McGuffee (mm208@rice.edu) if you are interested in applying for an Aquatics position.
