Private Training

Rice Recreation Center’s nationally certified and experienced private trainers provide individual, buddy, or small group training sessions to people desiring a program tailored to their needs. Trainers take time to evaluate their clients' physical fitness and keep track of their progress. Private training can occur in person at the Rice Recreation Center or virtually over Zoom. Our trainers are up to speed on the best practices and guidelines to abide by to ensure the community's safety.

Private Training Policies and Agreement

Payment Policy

Sessions will be prepaid, and payment is due at the initial appointment. Payments MUST be made online through the Recreation Center website. Paying a private trainer directly is strictly prohibited; all membership privileges to the Gibbs Recreation Center will be terminated if this is violated.

Session Duration

Private training sessions are 60-minutes in length.

Risk Factor Notice

Clients must be cleared of any risk factors associated with physical activity before meeting with a personal trainer for a session. If a client is identified as high risk, the client must provide the trainer with a signed physician's medical release form stating that the client has been cleared to engage in physical activity.

Training Facility

The Gibbs Recreation Center at Rice University will be the training facility for private training services during the appointment. Trainers are not allowed to train under other conditions or circumstances.

Refund Policy

Private training packages are non-refundable.

Transfer Policy

All private training packages are non-transferable. All private training packages must be paid in full and submitted to the Gibbs Recreation Center Administrative Office before the first session of each package is conducted. Sessions within a package cannot be split or transferred amongst other individuals such as spouses, peers, children, and friends.

Late Policy

Private training clients are responsible for arriving promptly to their sessions. The private trainer is required by policy to wait 15 minutes beyond the scheduled start time before the session is forfeited. If a client's session begins late due to the client's late arrival, the trainer continues with the session and ends at the scheduled time.

Cancellation Policy

Except in an emergency, a minimum of 24 hours notice is required to cancel a private training session. Failure to cancel within 24 hours or show up for a session will result in a forfeit of that session. Exceptions will only be made in the case of a medical emergency accompanied by a doctor's note. If there should be a discrepancy, the decision will be determined by the assistant director of fitness. Private training clients should contact their trainer directly should they need to cancel. Clients who cannot reach their trainer may contact the Assistant Director of Fitness and Wellness, Dr. Anatolia Vick-Kregel, av82@rice.edu or Andrew Wright, aw112@rice.edu.

Buddy / Small Group Training

If one client shows up for the session, the session will be conducted and counted towards your total package purchased. The session will be forfeited if all parties fail to show up or cancel within 24 hours.

Expiration of Personal Training Sessions

All sessions, packages, orientations, and assessments are valid for one calendar year after purchase.

All Private Training clients must be at least 14 or older. Specific private training can be recommended to younger participants if needed. If you have any questions, please contact Andrew Wright, aw112@rice.edu.
