Intramural Sports Official

Intramural sports officials are responsible for all rules, policies, and procedures of playing the game and should provide excellent customer service to all participants. Requirements include general knowledge of the sport(s), interest in officiating, and availability to work at least six hours a week, including evenings and/or weekends. We train our officials for flag football, basketball, soccer, softball, volleyball, and floor hockey.

Weight Room Attendant

Join the Gibbs Recreation Center team as a Weight Room Attendant! We're looking for students that are self-motivated, friendly, and enjoy working independently in a busy environment. Responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining a safe and enjoyable environment for Rec Center patrons to exercise in.
  • Ensuring the cleanliness of equipment and the tidiness of walkways, as well as keeping stock of various items within the space.
  • Observing the Cardio/Weight Rooms and enforcing building policy.
  • Providing excellent customer service to patrons through knowledge of the space and equipment.

Lifeguards and Swim Instructors

The Aquatics program is always interested in hiring quality lifeguards and water safety instructors. We seek Lifeguards and Water Safety Instructors with current American Red Cross certification. If you are not certified, we encourage you to sign up for one of our certification courses or seek out local places that offer the certification.

Outdoor Adventure Trip Leader

ROPE trip leading is a developmental experience through which staff members build leadership, decision-making, and outdoor skills while facilitating outdoor trips for the university community. Our trip leaders lead 2-3 trips each semester and attend additional training trips each semester to develop their skills. If you are passionate about the outdoors, facilitating a good time, and teaching others, stop by the OAC to talk to us about the experience.

Outdoor Adventure Center Rental Staff

Outdoor Adventure Center (OAC) rental staff coordinate outdoor equipment rentals, outdoor trip registrations, educational clinics, and the OAC facility. This small community maintains a warm and welcoming atmosphere in the OAC, manages rental needs, and assists with adventure trip logistics. This position requires critical thinking skills and the ability to work independently and offers a direct connection to our outdoor programming.

Group Exercise Instructors or Private Trainers

Interested in leading participants through exercise classes to improve their health? Successful applicants for this position are energetic, positive, and comfortable leading groups of people. This position requires previous experience with group fitness instruction.

Media Assistant

The Media Assistant will assist the Assistant Director for Marketing and Communications with photography, general marketing, and social media. Photography and projects will promote Rice Recreation facilities, programs, services, and events. This position requires knowledge of photography and marketing, evening and weekend hours, working outside, and the ability to work independently.

Summer Youth Activity Program Counselor

The goal for Summer Youth Activity Program (SYAP) Counselors is to provide all of the individuals who are involved with SYAP a unique, valuable and fun experience. Counselors are expected to be good with children ages 6-11 years of age. Counselors are expected to anticipate potential problems, contribute as a team member alongside fellow counselors, and endeavor to create a culture that reflects the overarching values, beliefs, and ethics of those associated with SYAP. This position requires critical thinking skills, and the ability to work independently.

Summer Youth Activity Program Instructor

Summer Youth Activity Program (SYAP) Instructors provide daily instruction in a specific activities to program participants. Activities include the sports of soccer, baseball, and/or rec games. The instructor will teach the associated knowledge and skills and assists SYAP participants in achieving activity or lesson goals. Suitable candidates must have previous teaching or coaching experience.
