EQUIPMENT NOTES

Protect your food and smellables from curious and hungry critters on the trail. The perfect bear bag hanging tree is never easy to find, especially when there aren't even trees around! Carry a Bear Vault bear canister; know your supplies are always secure. If you are traveling out West or to a National Park, many backpacking permits require permittees to use bear canisters.

ROPE carries two sizes of Bear Vault canisters: EV500 & EV450

Rental Equipment Policies

Rice University assumes no responsibility for accidents or injuries resulting from the use of rented equipment.

If the equipment is returned damaged or excessively dirty, the renter may be subject to additional fees. If equipment is damaged beyond repair, the full retail value of the item and shipping costs will be charged.

Equipment returned past the due date will be charged a minimum $15 fee plus additional rental fees. If the gear is not returned within 10 days of the rental due date, the full retail value plus late fees will be charged.

All equipment must be returned to staff during rental service hours. Abandoned equipment will be assessed a $15 fee.

All unpaid fees will be charged to the patron's university account if payment is not made within 7 days of notification.

ROPE does not issue refunds in the event of patron cancellations. Cancellations made more than 7 days before the pick-up date will be issued their rental form as credit for a future rental within six months. Patrons are responsible for retaining their rental form.

Individuals renting gear for an organized group are liable for all equipment listed in the rental.
