EQUIPMENT NOTES

Protect your food and smellables from curious and hungry critters on the trail. The perfect bear bag hanging tree is never easy to find, especially when there aren't even trees around! Carry a Bear Vault bear canister; know your supplies are always secure. If you are traveling out West or to a National Park, many backpacking permits require permittees to use bear canisters.

ROPE carries two sizes of Bear Vault canisters: EV500 & EV450

Rental Equipment Policies

Reservations must be made in-person at the Outdoor Adventure Center. There is no additional reservation fee, but full payment for the rental must be made at time of reservation.

ROPE does not issue refunds in the event of patron cancellations. Cancellations made more than seven days prior to pick-up will be issued their rental form as credit for a future rental within the next six months. Patrons are responsible for retaining their rental form. Cancellations seven days or less forfeit rental fees.

Rice University assumes no responsibility for accidents or injuries from the use of rented equipment.

If the equipment is returned damaged or excessively dirty, the renter may be subject to additional fees. This includes the cost of materials required to fix the items. If equipment is damaged beyond repair, the full retail value of the item and shipping costs will be charged.

Patrons returning rental gear beyond its due date will be subject to the late fees. Payment will be required upon the successful return of the gear. If the gear is not returned within two weeks of the rental due date, then full retail value plus late fees will be charged. The patron's Rice account will be charged if payment is not made within seven days.
