ROPE Frequently Asked Questions

ROPE - FAQ

Can I make a reservation online or over the phone?

All gear rentals are made in person at the Outdoor Adventure Center. This is a member only service. You are welcome to call our office in advance to see if gear is available for the weekend in interest.

What if I only need my gear for 1 night instead of 3?

Our rental rates are set up on a 3 night single base rate. Patrons may return their gear before their due date Monday through Friday during our office hours, but we do not offer a single night rate. The OAC is not open Saturday or Sunday and gear cannot be left at the center unattended.

Who can sign up to join ROPE Adventure Trips?

All current students, staff, and faculty can sign up to participate in our Adventure Trips. A Rec Center membership is not required but non-members will pay a higher rate. ROPE does not offer trips to Alumni or the general public.

Can my friend/child/partner join me on a trip?

Partners, family, and guests are permitted on our trips with an accompanying university or member sponsor. Some trips are limited to students or university members. There are additional fees applied and the sponsor is responsible for their guest following our program policies. Participants must be at least 13 years old unless the trip lists otherwise.

I need to cancel my spot. What do I do and can I get a refund?

Email our trip manager (ropetripsmanager@gmail.com) as soon as you know you are unable to attend. Our cancellation policy is: For single day adventures, refunds will be granted, less a $15 administrative fee, if made more than 10 days from the scheduled event. Multi-day adventures may include a non-refundable deposit will also be withheld. Registrants who cancel less than 10 days from the trip will not be eligible for a refund.

What if I want to sign up for a trip with my friends?

We encourage friend groups to sign up with one transaction and reimburse each other after registration. You can safely check if there are enough spots by requesting the total needs spots in a single order. Trip participation lists are elective and may not reflect the true current registration for a trip. Where ROPE offers two trips in the same area, make sure you are signing up for the correct group. ROPE does not guarantee that a switch can be made, and where possible a $15 fee will be applied to migrate registration information.

When are trips announced and when does registration open?

Our semester schedule is posted 3-4 weeks before the start of each new semester. Registration will open during the first week of classes. Exact dates will be posted at the top of our semester schedule.

When should I expect trips to be filled and closed?

Many of day trips will be filled by the end of the second week following the open of registration. Weekend trips are not far behind. Our extended trips tend to be more forgiving but the most popular trips can fill more than 4 weeks from the date of trip. Our most challenging trips during Spring Break and May Recess will be posted as far in advance as possible so participants can plan, prepare, and even train for these high adventure journeys.

Do you have any waitlists? The trip I wanted is full.

ROPE does not currently manage a waitlist. When spaces are cancelled we will release the spot back to our registration system. We recommend watching our social media for announcements about any openings and periodically checking our registration page.

What meals are provided on a trip?

ROPE provides all meals that are needed while we are on trail. Meal stops that are required during transit to our recreation area are not provided and are listed on trip itineraries.

What if I have dietary restrictions or food allergies?

We do our best to accomodate all dietary restrictions and food allergies within our trip preparation including gluten free, halal, and lactose free among others. Severe allergies should contact us in advance as cross contamination is possible. For some trips, bringing your own meal may be an option.

How many snacks should I bring on a trip?

Our meal plans are built to provide you suitable nutrition, sustanance, and energy throughout the trip. A snack or two per day on a longer trip can help boost energy or hold you over until the next meal. When snacks offset meals participants must pack out a cooked meal as trash. Avoid bringing large bags and pounds of snacks as you will be carrying extra weight one way or the other.

What if I don't have the gear necessary for the trip?

ROPE provides all the necessary outdoor gear to participate in the trip as part of your registration. We do not provide personal clothing items. If you are missing items from the personal clothing guide, we strongly recommend borrowing from friends or family before purchasing new gear just for the trip. Second-hand stores are also good alternative to expensive new gear.
