Outdoor Trips and Registration

 R.O.P.E. offers a variety of trips each semester that are designed for all experience levels. All trip registrations include transportation, meals, equipment rentals, and guided instruction by our skilled Outdoor Trip Leaders. DETAILED TRIP DESCRIPTIONS

Day Hike to Huntsville State Park: Just outside of the city, this State Park encloses a lake and boasts an array of wildlife: white-tailed deer, raccoon, opossum, armadillo, and much more! So come join us for a fantastic hike around Lake Raven, a picnic lunch, and some fresh air.

Horseback Riding: Come and join ROPE as we go horseback riding in the woods at Huntsville State Park. We will explore the wonder of the East Texas Piney woods on horseback. We welcome both new and experienced riders, and accommodate all skill levels.

Canoe Armand Bayou: Just an hour away, Armand Bayou has an array of wildlife as well as beautiful natural surroundings. You'll paddle away the afternoon, while exploring "Planet Earth" up close and personal!  

Backpacking Big Bend: Sometimes considered three parks in one, Big Bend includes mountain, desert, and river environments. An hour's drive can take you from the banks of the Rio Grande to a mountain basin nearly a mile high. You will experience unmatched sights, sounds, and solitude.

Guadalupe Mountains Adventure: This park is home to the "Top of Texas," Guadalupe Peak, as well as amazing canyons filled with flora and fauna, contrasted with the surrounding desert. We will spend each day hiking and exploring a different part of the park, while car camping at night. We will also visit Carlsbad Caverns National Park. 

Canoe the Colorado River: Escape city life for a day of canoeing on the beautiful Colorado River! We will be canoeing a 6.5 mile portion of the river that is located in Columbus, TX. You will have the opportunity to see wildflowers, birds, turtles, and more! The peaceful waters and calm rapids will give you a wonderful day on the river.

Climbing at Horseshoe Canyon Ranch: Horseshoe Canyon Ranch (HCR) is one of the premier rock climbing locations in America. Rock climbing of all difficulty levels is available and there is no previous experience necessary - all you need is an adventurous spirit! With high bluffs, tall trees, and a variety of wildlife, you can definitely find a peaceful feeling in this beautiful ranch. After scaling large cliffs, you can peer at breathtaking terrain that seems endless!

Beach Camping at Galveston S.P.: We will be heading down to Galveston State Park for some surfing and camping fun! Galveston Island is the favorite weekend getaway of many Houstonians. The minute you step on the beach, you can start to relax and take a break. During the trip, you will have an opportunity to surf, boogie board, kayak, play beach games, and relax!

Surfing: We will be heading down to Surfside, Texas with our surfboards to catch some awesome waves! Surfside is a truly wonderful Texas coastal city, with miles of unspoiled shoreline, coastal marsh, rivers, and bays. Surfside is the perfect retreat for a hard working city dweller. You will have the opportunity to surf, boogie board, kayak, play beach games, and have an amazing time!
