Trip Descriptions (more details when you hit "Register")

Horseback Riding and Cookout

Join ROPE as we explore the piney woods north of Houston like true Texans. We'll hop on our horses and take a guided tour of the area around Cypress Creek, completing the experience with an outdoor cookout in the area. This is a beginner-level ride, no experience necessary.

Adventure Caving

ROPE is heading out to Longhorn Caverns for a wild cave tour that is well off the beaten path. We will meet at the Outdoor Adventure Center at 6:00 PM on Friday and drive to Inks Lake State Park where we will spend a night under the stars. Saturday morning we will make the short drive to Longhorn Caverns State Park for our 2.5 hr guided tour that includes ample crawling, climbing, and adventure! We will return to campus that afternoon.

Canoeing at Big Thicket

ROPE will be heading out to nearby Big Thicket National Preserve for a day of canoeing in an area which has been called "one of the most biodiverse in the world (outside of the tropics)." We will make a relaxing float down a scenic stretch of Village Creek, stopping for lunch along the way. Prepare for an opportunity to escape the city and experience the dense and lively woods northeast of Houston!

Backpacking at Grand Canyon

Prepare for the greatest adventure of them all: ROPE's Spring Break Trip! This year we're pushing the limits with how much outdoor fun can be had in 8 days by heading out to one of the country's most iconic and beautiful destinations. We'll be visiting the Canyon De Chelly National Monument, Grand Canyon National Park, Havasupai Indian Reservation, and much more. Take a break from the noise of the city and experience the untamed and unparalleled beauty of the desert in spring.

Canoeing at Buffalo Bayou

ROPE would love for you to join us on a relaxing paddle through Armand Bayou!  Just an hour away, Armand Bayou sports an array of wildlife as well as untamed and beautiful natural surroundings. In the spring, the bayou is filled with herons, hawks, fish, turtles, and alligators (don't worry they're harmless from your canoe!).

Climbing and Hiking at Enchanted Rock

We're heading out to one of Texas' most iconic and beautiful natural features for 2 days of premier hiking and climbing. Towering above the Texas Hill Country with acres of exposed pink granite and unique rock formations, Enchanted Rock is like no other outdoor destination in Texas. Join us as we enjoy the fresh greenery and wildflower blooms of springtime deep in the Heart of Texas. This trip leaves after classes on Friday (6 PM).

Climbing and Adventure Conference at HCR

ROPE is heading northeast for a long weekend of outdoor fun in the verdant mountains of northern Arkansas. We'll spend time canoeing the cliff-lined Buffalo River before joining up with the Arkansas Regional Adventure Programming conference for a weekend of rock climbing, bouldering, hiking, socializing, and the opportunity to learn about outdoor recreation. This trip leaves after classes on Wednesday (6 PM).

Surfing at Surfside

Come join ROPE for a day at the beach! We will be heading down to Surfside, Texas with our surfboards to catch some awesome springtime waves! Surfside is truly a wonderful Texas coastal city; with miles of unspoiled shoreline, coastal marsh, rivers and bays. You will have the opportunity to surf, kayak, paddle board, play beach games and have an amazing time!

Day Hike at Huntsville

Escape the stress of the city and work with a day strolling through the scenic woods north of Houston. We'll make a 7-mile loop around Lake Raven, stopping to eat lunch and take in the views.

 Rocky Mountains Backpacking

Join ROPE as we depart for a full week of authentic backcountry backpacking in the Rocky Mountains! We'll be venturing to the Pecos Wilderness in northern New Mexico for 6 days of adventure. With jagged mountain peaks, endless meadows and pine forest, and crystal clear lakes and streams, you'll never forget the vistas you'll encounter in this high altitude paradise. Join us and experience the reward of being outdoors, active, and independent of the modern world for an entire week!
