    Rice Recreation Center’s nationally certified and experienced personal trainers provide individual, buddy, or small group training sessions to people desiring a program tailored to their specific needs. Trainers take time to evaluate their clients' physical fitness and keep track of their progress.

    Fitness Assessments

    Fitness testing is a wonderful way to chart your current fitness level and track your progress over a period of time. The fitness assessments include general tests of cardiovascular endurance, muscle strength, flexibility, blood pressure, body composition, and more. Fitness assessments are administered by the Personal Training staff within the Recreation Center, and are a full hour in length. The cost of a fitness assessment includes the test (approx. 35 minutes), explanation of the results, and future goal setting, if desired, with the Personal Trainer.

  • Facility Orientation Options

  • Weight Room Orientation

    If you would like to start weight training and using some of the machines in the weight room, the weight room orientation is a perfect start to your basic weight training goals. A weight room team member and/or trainer will take time to guide you through set-up on 8-10 machines targeting major muscle groups, ensure proper techniques, explain muscle groups being worked and provide you with all of the information covered at the end of the session.

    Cardio Room Orientation

    Are you interested in using the cardio equipment in the Rice Recreation Center but not sure how or where to start? Is this your first time working out and you would like some guidance? With the cardio room orientation a weight room team member and/or a personal trainer will spend 45-60 minutes explaining the general layout of the cardio room, guide you through set-up on the cardio equipment and discuss features characteristic to each brand of equipment. You will leave feeling empowered and with a booklet including pictures and explanations of how to use each piece of cardio equipment we have to offer.

  • Romain 2015Romain Garcia worked in Bordeaux, France as a physical trainer, evaluator and mental coach for semi-pro golfers and tennis players. He had the chance to evaluate the Professional French Rugby team for the 2007 World Cup, as well as the French soccer team. He has been a Personal Trainer for different type of clients (overweight, sedentary people, young athletes and athletes) since 2006. He graduated in France with Master's degrees in Science of Education and Science of Sports. Romain is also a certified mental coach from the "Methode Target" and is certified as a physical trainer and evaluator for pro athletes.


    His philosophy is, "Men sane in corpore sano." To keep a prolific mind, feed your brain with oxygen, good nutrients, water and exercise. Then your inspiration, creativity and focus will be at their peak! Whatever you set your mind to, you will do. To quote Paolo Coelho in the Alchemist, "When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better too." Get ready for the journey, it is worth it.

    Kelly 2015Born and raised in Texas, Kelly Aguilar has always centered her life around being active. Her passion for health and fitness lead her to California to explore a new career path. She obtained her Holistic Nutrition Certificate from Clayton College of Natural Health. After sustaining an injury while getting her degree, Kelly was introduced to Yoga and became a certified instructor.

    Kelly participated in strongman competitions which she is Ms. Strongman Japan 2011, taught Yoga, ballet, gymnastics and ran strenuous training programs for the US military and civilian population living overseas. She became a regular fitness competitor, placing 2nd in her first local NPC competition, then 1st in her next NCP competition. She moved on to bikini and figure with both NPC and Fitness America Pageants, never placing below 5th place and gaining 3 time national qualifier.

    Kelly's experience allows her to lead clients through restorative exercise programs and help those dealing with injuries, training for special events, or those with other health and fitness needs. Writing fitness programs and diets for clients around the globe, she enjoys seeing the bodies and lives of her clients change. She believes in creating a balance between body, mind, and soul to achieve optimal results. Kelly hopes to go further into Sports medicine and continue on her path of becoming an MD.

    David 2015David Crain is a 10 year veteran personal trainer and deeply passionate about fitness and a healthy lifestyle. He is certified through NASM and has extended his education with NASM CES ,PES, as well as being certified as a massage therapist. He was also an amateur kickboxing competitor going 4 and 1 in his amateur record. Despite a combat sports  background, David is a peaceful, fun-loving an energetic person both in and out of the fitness world and uses that energy to inspire others. Having no youth or college-related athletic history, David was a "late-bloomer" into the fitness world.

     

    After starting a weight training and cardio program shortly after college, David found that in two years of working out he had barely gained any muscle tone and had actually GAINED body fat. It was at this point that he took a more scientific approach, got educated in the field , and went at his goal again armed with new knowledge. This time he put on 10 pounds of muscle and got his body fat down from 18% to 7%. For ten years he's made passing on that energy and lifestyle a hobby and a profession.

    Emma 2015Emma Terrell is currently a student at Rice University and is certified by the American College of Sports Medicine. She also holds a CPR/AED certification from the American Red Cross.

    Emma has a twelve-year background in gymnastics and participated in the Junior Olympics for five years. She also has work experience in a physical therapist’s office and is knowledgeable about competitive training and recovery. She was also a varsity track and field athlete in high school for four years and currently participates in powder-puff for Baker College. Emma loves to work with anyone eager to improve and from any physical background.



    Joseph 2015Joseph Madamba considers himself both a student and teacher of movement.  He has practiced or studied many different types of sports, martial arts, dance, and movement styles.  He believes that movement or any kind of physical activity is an essential part of each person’s life.

     

    Joseph is a certified personal trainer for both the National Academy of Sports Medicine and the National Exercise and Sports Trainers Association.  He is also a Crossfit Level 1 Certified Trainer.  Joseph believes in keeping up with the latest research in order to keep his clients as current as possible.  He tailors programs specifically for each client’s individual goals/needs. 


    Joseph believes in incorporating methods and techniques from various disciplines in order to get the best results.  As Bruce Lee said, “Absorb what is useful, discard what is not, add what is uniquely your own.” He enjoys working with people of all ages, skill, and fitness levels.  He loves sharing their struggles and triumphs on the way to their goals.

    Ewa 2015Ewa Jankowska was born in Poland and raised in Texas. Her life has always revolved around sports and outdoors. From family kayaking trips during the summers to after school sports programs, she was always moving. She was in kindergarten when she first stepped onto a tennis court and tennis quickly became her favorite sport. A close second was swimming, then biking, and later kickboxing and weightlifting. 


    Ewa studied Exercise Sports Science at Texas State University in San Marcos and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Health and Fitness Management. She is NASM certified, and currently working on her Corrective Exercise Specialist and Spinning certifications.

    Ewa is always looking for new ways to incorporate exercise into her daily routine, and to learn more in order to find what works best for her clients. She is always eager to help, educate, and motivate whoever is willing to learn and improve their physical strength and overall wellbeing.

    Jeremy 2015Jeremy Chance has been personal training for over two years and is certified through the American Council on Exercise. Currently a graduate student at the University of Houston studying Sport and Fitness Administration, Jeremy is originally from Indiana where he attended Purdue University. He earned two degrees, a BA in Communication and a BS in Kinesiology.

    After changing to a more healthy lifestyle, Jeremy lost 80 pounds and discovered a passion for health and fitness. He returned to Purdue to earn the degree in Kinesiology to pass on that same passion to others. He began as a fitness floor monitor at Purdue’s Division of Rec Sports, but Jeremy wanted more one-on-one impact on the health and wellness of others. He became a certified personal trainer and trained at Purdue for a year and a half before moving to the great state of Texas for grad school.

    Jeremy enjoys working with a variety of clients so long as they’re ready to commit to a healthy lifestyle and are ready to work to achieve that healthy lifestyle.
