The goal of the Counselor-In-Training (CIT) program is to prepare young teenagers (aged 13-16) for the leadership and responsibility associated with being a counselor. Throughout the summer, CITs will be assigned to specific SYAP groups and will have the opportunity to interact daily with counselors, instructors and children. In addition, each CIT will be partnered with a bright and charismatic college-aged mentor who will work with your teen on skills such as problem solving, effective communication, leadership and teamwork. Being a CIT is unique experience where teenagers learn valuable skills in a dynamic and fun environment.
CITs are invited to apply to participate in 1 or 2 blocks of programming during the summer. Each block covers 2 sessions of summer camp. CITs are expected to attend for the full duration of a block and may apply to participate for a single block or for both blocks as their schedules permit.
Block 1: Sessions 1 & 2. June 03 - June 14 & June 17-28
Block 2: Sessions 3 & 4. July 08 - July 19 & July 22 - Aug 02
In order to be considered for the CIT program, individuals must complete a written application and a video application and submit two forms of reference. Once all materials are received, applicants will be contacted to schedule an interview. Please note, not everyone who applies is selected. This year, only 6-8 CITs will be invited to work for SYAP per block.
All forms are attached below:
Application review begins February 21st, and we will invite potential CITs for an on campus interview beginning March 4th. CIT decisions will be announced by March 20th.
