In addition to organizing numerous weekend excursions throughout the semester, ROPE also offers low-cost equipment rentals and resources to support your personal outdoor pursuits. The mission of ROPE is to provide physical, mental, educational, and social growth to the Rice University community by using outdoor education techniques in a natural, safe, and enjoyable environment.

Outdoor Trips and Registration
Whether you are new to the area or have lived in Texas your entire life let R.O.P.E. guide your next outdoor adventure. R.O.P.E. offers a variety of trips each semester that are designed for all experience levels. All trip registrations include transportation, meals, equipment rentals, and guided instruction by our skilled Outdoor Trip Leaders. Just Choose, Register, and Go!
Friday Night Climb
Looking for something to jazz up your Friday evenings? R.O.P.E sponsors Friday night indoor climbing trips to Texas Rock Gym! Bouldering and top-rope climbing are available, and all skill levels are welcome and accommodated.
Trainings and Clinics
Join the R.O.P.E. staff as they provide information for beginner outdoor enthusiasts to expert adventurers on various topics including: wilderness first aid, Leave No Trace environmental ethics, rock climbing, basic camping skills, backcountry cooking and more.
Become a Trip Leader
Join our dynamic team of volunteer trip leaders. We hire student trip leaders each fall who participate in a 1-year training process which includes leadership, group development, environmental ethics, wilderness first aid, and technical skills in a variety of outdoor activities. You will have the opportunity to lead Rice students, faculty and staff on various trips including rock climbing, kayaking, backpacking, sailing, caving, and more.
