Rice Dance Theatre (RDT), a pre-professional dance company for Rice students, is an integral part of the Gibbs Recreation Center. First formed in 1979 by a small group of students with a strong interest in performing and exploring dance as a creative outlet, it has grown to large dance company of 25-30 dancers. While there are many opportunities for students to explore dance on campus, RDT presents a unique opportunity for students to receive training in theatrical production, choreography and dance technique to while pursuing degrees in various fields. The company hosts two annual performances for Rice University and the Houston community where student choreography is featured.

Guest Choreographers & Instructors
The Dance Program recognizes the rich artistic culture and high caliber of dance artists in the Houston community. We value the well rounded dancer and want to expose the company to many diverse learning opportunities. Every semester, The Dance Program hires a professional guest choreographer to set work on Rice Dance Theatre. In addition to choreographing for the company, the guest choreographer teaches 2 master classes and participates in a question and answer session with the students. In addition to the guest choreographer, the Dance Program also hires 2-3 professional guest instructors each semester to teach a variety of master and specialty classes.
