Dance Programs and Rice Dance Theatre
The Dance Program is dedicated to providing a broad spectrum of dance instruction to members of the Rice community and to providing support, assistance, and guidance to student dance organizations. We offer a multitude of specialty dance classes each semester, which vary in length, focus and cost. In addition, the Rice Dance Program runs Rice Dance Theatre, a student dance company that provides individuals with opportunities to perform, choreograph and study contemporary dance techniques as well as develop general skills related to dance production.
Rice Dance Theatre
Rice Dance Theatre is a modern dance company governed by elected student officers and directed by the Assistant Director of Dance Programs.
Specialty Dance
Specialty Dance Series offers patrons opportunities for deeper instruction for their favorite dance forms. Progressive in nature, these classes start with fundamentals and work towards more complex maneuvers.
Youth Dance
Youth Dance Classes aim to expose young dancers to a variety of styles, skills and approaches to dance in a noncompetitive environment. New classes are offered each semester and taught by professional dance instructors.
Summer Dance Camp
Summer Dance Camp is two weeks of dancing and creative arts for beginning to experienced level dancers ages 8–11. Students will take classes in ballet, modern, jazz, and hip hop dance technique and perform an in-studio showing on the final day of class.
Dance Festivals
The Rice Dance Program organizes special opportunities to view and participate in dance, including the annual Third Coast Dance Film Festival.
